By the end of 1876, Lillian' Nolan's life appears to be right on track. Her star continues to rise in the theatrical world and she is engaged to be married to the love of her life. The only black cloud appears to be a spate of box office robberies which  have occurred in Chicago. In October, the box office manager of the Ellicott's Theater is found bludgeoned to death and the week’s receipts are missing. The ensuing scandal threatens both the livelihood and reputation of Regina Ellicott, Lillian’s friend and mentor.

 

      When Edward Hearne, the theater's manager and Regina’s business partner is arrested for the crime, Lillian is compelled to investigate. What Lillian finds out changes everything about her upcoming wedding and her future in the theater.
